“Play Ball for Autism”

Collaboration through Arts and Sports

Play Ball for Autism fosters a day of collaboration. Children and their families get together to create beautiful art, play sports, and have fun! Increased confidence, cognitive reasoning, and problem solving are just some of the many benefits of well-crafted and creative kinesthetic learning! When these artistic and athletic activities take place among children of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities, we see the development of leadership skills, empathy, and compassion - yielding a decrease in bullying and destructive behaviors.

An Artistic and Athletic Adventure

On August 24th, 2019 in Charleston, SC, The Children's Fine and Performing Arts Foundation produced an artistic and athletic adventure--an incredible day filled with art projects, professional athletes, and awesome performances that allowed children of all abilities and backgrounds to participate in the fun by playing and singing along. We had an incredible turnout, with over 1000 children included!

Coinciding with our 2019 event, we kicked off the New York Yankees' "Hope Week" with affiliate, the Charleston River Dogs. We also partnered with Special Olympics, who is celebrated 50 years of service. Boys and girls with Autism and special needs from the Scouting BSA (formerly Boy Scouts of America) participated.

Play Ball for Autism! 2018 gave children with Autism and the opportunity to experience the Great American Pastime and a fun day at the ball park! They had full access to resources in their community and beyond - under one roof and in a safe and fun environment. We received kudos for the way the foundation used the physical space of the ballpark for artistic and movement-based projects for the kids -- many parents told us that for the first time, their kids expressed themselves through art.

Increases Confidence, Cognitive Reasoning and Problem Solving

Increased confidence, cognitive reasoning, and problem solving are just some of the many benefits of well-crafted and creative kinesthetic learning! When these artistic and athletic activities take place among children of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities, we see the development of leadership skills, empathy, and compassion - with the long-term effect of yielding a decrease in bullying and destructive behaviors.

Harnessing this momentum and going bigger and better, we are igniting this national movement of inclusion at major sporting events. Conversations about Play Ball for All! are taking place with sporting venues and teams across the country!
